News Ches McDowell and Nelson Freeman Named 2021 Top Lobbyists in North Carolina

November 29, 2021

WINSTON-SALEM (November 29) – Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton announced today that Ches McDowell and Nelson Freeman were featured in The North State Journal’s 2021 list of the Top 25 Lobbyists in North Carolina. Mr. McDowell was featured in the Top 10 and Mr. Freeman was featured in the Top 25.

The North State Journal staff surveyed legislators, staffers, reporters, business leaders and parsed data on the clients represented by the registered lobbyists this year. The list is primarily comprised of lobbyists with significant clients — both in number and in quality. The publication developed a metric for client quality based on many factors, including market capitalization, business trade publication rankings, legislative success, and size. The factors in the rankings were legislator and staffer surveys and client quality scores. Less than 4 percent of all registered lobbyists made the list.

Ches McDowell is a Senior Government Relations Advisor in Kilpatrick Townsend’s Winston-Salem office. Mr. McDowell represents clients in many industries including health care, financial services, entertainment, technology, outdoor sports, aviation, municipal government, nonprofits, state-wide associations, elections, energy, pharmaceuticals, and real estate development.

Nelson Freeman is a Government Relations Advisor in the firm’s Raleigh office. He has significant experience advising on tax policy, information technology and economic development, and helped secure hundreds of millions of dollars for commercial airports in North Carolina.
